Midsummer/Litha/Summer Solstice
Midsummer is a day to celebrate the power of the Sun as it reaches the peak
of its strength. After today the Sun weakens a bit more each day. It
is also the time mark peak moments of warmth and growth in your life.
Celebrate the memories of those special times. It's a day to honor
the Mother, who is heavily pregnant, who allows life to continue and nurtures
and sustains us. Midsummer is also a time for magickal workings. This is
the day when the Holly King defeats the Oak King in their eternal battle
for dominance.
In Voodoo tradition, St. John's Day on July 24th is considered a holy day
and celebrations are held to honor the Voodoo loas
Today is a wonderful day to
research Sun Goddesses. Many Witches seem to believe that all Goddesses
are Moon Goddesses and all Gods are Sun Gods. Thanks to the efforts
of two dedicated authors we can learn that this isn't the truth. The
Celts, Germanic tribes, Native Americans and Japanese, among others, had
Sun Goddesses. In Eclipse of the Sun by Janet McKrickard
and O Mother Sun by Patricia Monahan these ancient Sun Goddesses
are reclaimed. So spend some time learning about our ancient Sun Goddesses
and reclaim the Solar feminine power!!
Activities:

Midsummer is a good time to collect herbs for magickal purposes (especially
St. John's Wort). Create magickal amulets and talismans out of the herbs
you collect.

Midsummer is celebrated for being a great time to work magick

A good activity to do with your children is ridding the household of toxic
cleansers and find more earth friendly alternatives.

Create solar images from clay, make grapevine wreaths or solar wheels.

Rent "A Midsummer Nights Dream" and enjoy it with that special someone.

Breakfast: Enjoy a fruit salad made of oranges, tangerines and
other orange or yellow fruits; have a corn muffin.

Lunch: For lunch enjoy barbecued food (maybe barbecued chicken
on yellow rice)

Dinner: Have something spicy or grilled. Some spicy fajitas
with yellow rice or grilled steak with corn on the cob or maybe curried lamb
with some pineapple.
