Art by Jeff DotenRecipes for a Magickal Bath

Here are some recipes for bath salts, shower gels and body spray which I'd like to offer.  They can be especially useful when you're preparing for a ritual or magickal working.  They're great fun to make and take no time at all.  I made a variety of shower gels and spray colognes for friends and relatives as Yule gifts.  I hope you enjoy trying them as much as I did.  You can find some ideas for fragrance blends on the Lunar Aromatherapy page

Mystical Colored Bath Salts

1 cup Epsom salts
1/4 cup kosher salt or sea salt, coarsely ground
Food coloring
Fragrance oil

Mix together the Epsom salts and kosher salt. Add a few drops food coloring to create the color you need to suit the magickal or ritual work to be performed. Stir well to blend. Add a few drops of fragrance oil. Pour the salts into a container with a lid or into a resealable plastic bag and close tightly. When you are drawing a bath, add about 1/4 cup of these bath salts under running water.

Sacred & Sensuous Bath Oils

1/2 cup light oil (olive, almond, apricot kernel or your favorite)
15 drops Love fragrance oil

Pour the oil into a clean container and add the fragrance oil. Shake gently to blend. Store in a cool, dark, dry place

Lady of the Lake Foaming Honey Bath

1 cup oil
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup liquid soap
1 teaspoon fragrance oil

Mix together all the ingredients and pour into a clean bottle with a tight-fitting stopper or lid. To use: Shake before using. Pour 1/4 cup into the bathtub under running water.

Honey Cleanser

1/4 cup honey
1 Tablespoon liquid soap
1/2 cup glycerin
1 teaspoon fragrance oil

Mix together all ingredients and pour into a clean bottle (a non-breakable if you'll be using it in the shower or tub).

Morrigan's Moonshadow Shower Gel

1/2 cup liquid soap
1/2 cup distilled water
1 Tbsp aloe vera gel
18 drop essential oil

Mix liquid soap and aloe vera gel together in a bowl. Add fragrance oil and stir. Pour into a container with a tight-fitting lid (preferably plastic for safety reasons). Shake well before each use.

Sacred Body Spray

2 oz distilled water
2 oz vodka
1-2 tsp Fragrance or essential oil

Pour distilled water and vodka in 4 oz glass spray bottle (a cobalt bottle is recommended because it keeps the scent from degrading). Add 1-2 tsp (depending on preferred strength) of fragrance oil. Close spray-top on bottle and shake gently to blend. Allow to sit in a cool, dark place for a few days to blend.

This recipe can also create a room spray but use less fragrance oil.

Spiritually Cleansing Skin Wash

8oz plain liquid castile soap
8 oz distilled water
18 drops of fragrance or essential oil of choice
1 tsp sweet almond or jojoba oil

Add fragrance or essential oil and sweet almond or jojoba oil to liquid soap. Shake well.

Freya's Honey Wash

8 oz plain liquid castile soap
8 oz distilled water
2 Tbsp Honey
18 drops essential oil

Combine soap, water & honey.  Mix well.  Add essential oil & shake

Lady of the Night Light Moisturizer

1/2 cup distilled water
3 tsp glycerin
5 drops fragrance oil

Pour ingredients into storage bottle and shake vigorously. Product can be used by applying with a cotton ball or by spraying the skin lightly and allowing to dry. Does not require refrigeration.

Porta-Pagan's Travel Towels

1/2 cup vodka
1 tsp glycerin
1/2 cup distilled water
10 drop fragrance or essential oil
Paper Towels

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Stir to mix well. Place folds of soft, strong paper towels together side by side in a shallow dish. Pour the mixture over the towels and press to saturate. Stack the wet towels in a clean airtight container and cover. Repeat with more towels until liquid is all used up. Extra liquid can be kept in a jar with a tight-fighting lid.

If you feel the need for some quiet time to pamper and comfort yourself then I highly recommend picking up a copy of The Woman's Comfort Book and The Woman's Retreat Book both by Jennifer Loudon.  These books are wonderful and full of exercises and ideas to comfort and focus on yourself.  The exercises are simple to follow and easy to read.  Both books are setup in a simple format so you can look for an exercise that targets what you feel most in need of (courage, getting silly, getting off steam) and try it out.  The exercises are usually two pages long and include ideas for music, fragrance and other details that enhance the experience.
