Elements of the Celtic Tradition by Caitlin Matthews -
Caitlin offers a simple, useful and interestingintroduction into Celtic Pagan
tradition. In this small but thorough book, Caitlin discusses the Celtic
worldview, deities, practices and explores how it has influenced us today.
She also provides some easy to follow visualizations and activites
for finding your personal totem and creating an earth shrine, among other
things. This book would provide a basic and non-threatening introduction
to anyone just beginning on a Celtic Pagan path.
Power of Raven, Wisdom of Serpent by Noragh Jones - This wonderful book looks at the oral culture of the Scottish Highlands and how the women in the community served as guardians of power and wisdom for heaing, blessing and cursing. It offers glimpses into remaining folklore tradition and some lovely poems and charms (which could be easily modified for any Pagans wishing to incorporate them into rituals). Noragh Jones looks at the festivals still celebrated in this community and how they enrich modern life. The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries by W.Y. Evan-Wentz - This interesting and useful book offers an intriguing look at the various traditions and folklore surrounding fairies in the Celtic countries (Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall and Manx) at the turn of the century. Written in 1911 this book provides first person accounts of peoples interactions with the fairies and how each country had slightly different beliefs. It is a trifle scholarly but it is still a fascinating glimpse at the matter of fact way people used to accept dealings with the fairy folk. |
